Exploring The Town - 1

How ironic that this summer was one of the hottest and when I got here, it got colder. Sweater weather. Seriously, besides not really having warm clothes, it did not matter. Weather was yucky that day but by lunch time it got nicer and we thought it was a good day to go see my god mother and her son.

Have I ever said that we used to be next door neighbours? When I was baptised, she was chosen as a god mother for me. She has not been feeling well for years. I was happy to see her. We have not told anyone that I would be coming so it was a total surprise for her. When she opened the door, she started crying and hugging me. What a good feeling!
Love this picture with my Mom. Can see part of the house, her flowers and us snuggling.
Since the weather was getting nicer, we headed out to enjoy it. We drove to Alexandrovka to get some stuff from the place my parents were working. I was absolutely astonished by some of the things that my Dad did for this place. He would take a regular, naked piece of wood and transfer it to completely ready item. He would change it to make it look old and there you go. He took me around the house and showed everything he did - fireplace, plumbing, electric. Lots of things out of wood. Here is one example:

How cool is that? He is so incredibly handy!

We checked on the place that used to be our dacha. Many years ago. It brought back many memories.

Here is the bridge over Dubna river. It is pretty old and every time the car passed, we could feel the bridge shaking. I love my Dad :) We had the same picture taken in 2010 on the same spot. :)

We drove past my school. Was not sure if I wanted to go in because I did when I came here in 2010 but my Mom and I said "What the heck, let's go".
We walked all three floors and I was surprised at how much I still remembered. Whose class it was and where the library and gym were. School was not in session yet so we saw only a couple people inside but no one I knew. There were still a few teachers who used to teach me years ago. Some things never change :) It was comfort to see those names on the classes' doors.

There was one funny thing. Every door had a name tag of a teacher who had this class and the name of the subject they taught. However, when I looked at the room that said Teachers' Room, on the bottom of it I saw the note "Cat Marusya". It sooo cracked me up!
Since we were right there we we stopped and walked at Picktyapkino. It is so beautiful when it is winter. I can not believe we used to sled from this hill for hours years ago. We would come home half frozen, with limbs not moving. As much as I do not like cold, I still remember how much fun we had. My parents would sled with me as well.
Here it is.
I really was not annoyed here. Just made it look like I was :)
I just COULD NOT pass it. Monkey bar challenge. :) I guessed I would do half of it. I ended up doing the whole thing. My Mom hung on it and hung. Could not move. I was laughing when my Dad hung and tried to move to the second bar and he made such a noise like he was falling or something. I was laughing and laughing!
Never grow up. What for? My Dad said he used to do 32 of them in his boots when he was serving in the army. He could do one here. I asked him why just one and my Mom said because he did not have army boots on :) SOOOOO fun!
We walked back to the car having light conversations about nothing just laughing. It made my heart feel so full and again, brought back so many memories because of how much time we used to spend together as a family as I was growing up especially in this part of the woods.
